Airfix 1/72 A-10 Thunderbolt II - Chapter 3

My plan was to paint the A-10 in the same Olive Drab paint-scheme as the Apache to practice my airbrush skills a bit on a cheap model but that idea got boring really fast. I spend some hours researching for alternative paint-schemes and found this winter camouflage, which i decided to try out instead.



I airbrushed some pre-shades, using Tamiya XF-1 flat black, onto all panel lines and gave it a coat of very light grey. Mixed from Tamiya XF-2 flat white and a drop of Tamiya XF-63 german grey. After it dried for some time i gave it a final thin flat white coat, still using the Tamiya, and sealed it with a layer of Model Master flat clear acrylic.

Again i let it dry for some time while i cut out some masking tape for the black camouflage. I have never tried this before on any kind of model, so i really didn't know what I was doing. I am/was a camo-virgin...

But, as you properly can see, i did a lot of over spraying because I'm a complete camo-noob. I tried to fix it by covering the black and spraying white again but that made it even worse. I got white dust in the black. Damn it. Now I have now given it a complete over-spray of Tamiya Fine Surface Primer to cover it all up and start over. This time doing what I set out to do in the first place. Practice the paint-scheme for the AH-64D Longbow I'm building next. OLIVE DRAB...

One step forward and two steps back!

and on a side note; I'm not sure why the American Army painted the aircraft like a Danish Holstein but it makes me feel comfy (:

On with the build. I discovered the weakly sculptured pilot's back was about 15-30 scale centimeters from his seat so some fitting had to be done. I got him into his seat after wrestling a bit with it and i give some basic modelling tips on using files on scale models.

Well, there is not really much to say about this video. It's straight forward on the Airfix build. It's all coming along according to planes on the A-10 Thunderbolt. It's always a good idea to test-fit your parts before gluing but it's especially important when you are building an old kit like this. It's all basic modelling tips and tricks but check the video out for yourself...

Airfix 1/72 A-10 Thunderbolt II REVIEW

I made this review some time ago but had to re-upload it to my Modellours Workshop channel because I still had the kit and had decided to build it myself. This is a discontinued kit which Airfix has stopped producing and when you look at the kit you know why. With that being said, I also have to tell that I got the kit so cheap i bought tree of them. I'm a BIG A-10 fan. I'm a big fan of all aircrafts with A in the description...

The first model was build very quickly and with out any hesitation, which turned out to bi a big failure. first because the parts in the Airfix kit are way past their golden days and are really having problems fitting together but secondly because I wanted to airbrush plane and it was my first 1/72 model and the first aircraft to airbrush. In fact, it was only my second scale model after 20 years away from the hobby so my control of the airbrush was, and still is, very limited and i completely fucked the paint-scheme up. I made it into a toy for my cousin and gave it to him. It's the model with the British markings, i use in the video.

The second A-10 I gave away to to Lasse at http://www.youtube.com/user/myhuxpo for his third place in my weathering competition. I'm still waiting to see the finished result from him...

The third on I'm building for myself but I will still paint it in a fantasy paint-scheme to practice for the Italeri Apache I'm building next so it's gonna be a one colour Olive Drab paint-scheme with some heavy pre-shades.

Italeri 1/48 AH-64D Longbow Apache OoB Review

The Italeri 1/48 AH-64D Longbow Apache is deferentially not the greatest or most accurate kit on the market but it has a lot of parts and it will make a great 'out the box' build. If you like to super detail it, no problem. There's a lot of aftermarked parts and detail sets in stores, including some photo-etch parts from Eduard Model Accessories ltd and a brand new resin cockpit from Aires Hobby Models. You can easily spend more money on detail sets and upgrade parts, than the model it self costs. The Italeri Longbow is an rather old kit and it really need a new tooling but it is a very inexpensive kit and it will give you great value for the money.

I can only highly recommend this kit to everybody. Both to the newbie, like me that just want a kit with a lot of parts. This is also for the experienced modeler whom wants to super detail the Apache and spend month building the helicopter.

This will hopefully be a quick build as I'm really looking forward to airbrushing and weather this model.

Tamiya 1/48 Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VI Nightfighter

This is one of the first kits i will be building this fall. I've really been looking forward to start this one and it will not be long now. The first build this fall will be the Airfix 1/72 A-10 Thunderbolt II, which i will start today, but i will build the Beaufighter in conjunction with the A-10 and the Apache so i can paint them together.

Here you see a close up of the decals. The registration is topnotch and the silver is really cutting it close to the markings. That's excellent but all the spaces between the letters and the markings is also film and i highly recommend  cutting this away before applying the decals to the model. The silver will be very visual on a black paint scheme. I will, how ever, try to paint my own lettering and possible the markings too, if i dare.





The clear parts are excellent too. Thin and crisp, with no flash of any kind, and the window frames are clearly marked so it will be no problem masking them off before i airbrush the Beaufighter. The top hatch is made separably and leaves the option of having it open, which I will do.

Welcome to my new set-up and the fall season of my workshop

Hey everybody and welcome to my new channel, my new blog and to the fall season of my new set-up.

For those that don't know me, i am Kasper aka SVINEHUNDEN and i've been uploading hobby videos for the last couple of years. But due to branding issues, editing and hardware problems, i have chosen to delete all my old videos from my main channel 'SVINEHUNDEN'. Some have been re-uploaded to other channels, including eight at Modellours Workshop.


This season is the first on my new channel "MODELLOURS WORKSHOP" and it will be dedicated to WWII aircrafts, including a Beaufighter and an B-25 Mitchell but i will also build a couple of modern aircrafts.

My garden project | Märklin Gartenbahn

I really want to make my model railroad videos stand out from the crowd and since I don't have an awesome layout to display my trains on, I really have to think outside the box. This project was for YouTube, home of personal videos so I was aiming for a much more personal type of video including some real people. Märklin and the whole model railroad industry's having big problems attracting the next generation but I see videos and YouTube as their solution. This is the perfect platform to display our hobby so this was my first attempt to make a different  type of video.

Unfortunately I had just bought a new Sony camera and had to change from Windows Movie Maker to Sony Vegas 10 and the whole project completely drowned in my noobishness and I never really got the video edited.

It was still a very fun day and as you can see in these videos, the kids really enjoyed it so it certainly wasn't wasted time. Enjoy the videos, fellas.

I made a plan in Wintrack and lay down the tracks. Hard work and it took me about 3 hours. The layout was made of a double mainline loop and a single track siding with reversing loops in both ends. The idea was to have three trains running on the mainline and one on the siding.
