SF3D in Space

Background:

I know a lot of facts because I have always been a big fan of Ma.K. or SF3D as the series used to be called. The story and all robots were designed by a modeller Mr. Kow Yokoyama from Japan. He was born in 1956 and studied painting and illustration at the university. Kow was very inspired by the Stars War movies and started to create his own models. His "SF3D" works was first published(1983), in a magazine call "Hobby Japan". I was a reader of this magazines and I love his designs a lot.

Hardboiled AFS - Diorama of the Day

I'm really liking the whole concept of Ma.K. and I have been looking around to see what paople are doing with the kits. One of my favourite blogs is fichtenfoo.net by Michael Fichtenmayer. Michael really has made some amazing models. He likes Sci-Fi and have done a few Ma.K. builds. 

I think this one is one of his best but he has a lot more posted and some really inspiring pictures.

Trumpeter decal tool

Being a trained cabinet maker I really enjoy tools and most of the time, the right tool is half the job so when I saw this new decal application tool from Trumpeter, I was curious. I have been doing a bit of research and people are really pleased with this product. 

The main reason I like this tool is because of the cheap price(£2.70 online) but also because purpose build tools are really cool. The Trumpeter decal tray and applicator is widely available and if your local store doesn't have it, they should be able to order it for you.

Scale Model Addict's BIG SPRING CONTEST

All the entries for the Big Spring contest at SMA has finally been posted. The voting booth is not open for business yet but I suspect it will be very soon. RAF Lancaster B.III "Dambusters"

Revell 1/72 Lancaster B.III the Dambusters.

Recently I built up this Revell kit along with an Airfix Halifax, I quickly found the big different of old and modern tooling of plastic mould technology of these 2 kits. I spent more time to build up the tiny parts
of Lancaster, on the other hands the Airfix Halifax has no detail parts but I still need to spend a lot of time to fill in gaps around Halifax body. The two bombers come up with almost same size. The decals of the Revell Lancaster is so good quality (Made in Italy).

Ma.K. Melusine - Diorama of the Day

SF3D was a Sci Fi plastic model series which ran during the mid 1980s. The series was created by artist Kow Yokoyama with Kunitaka Imai and Hiroshi Ichimura. SF3D was introduced in the Hobby Japan Magazine as a special monthly installment of scratch built models. Nitto, a small Japanese company picked up the rights to make plastic kits of Kow's designs. The models produced were very high quality with crisp molding, fine details and they included copper rod, brass tube, spring coils, and photo-etched parts. They were one of the first multimedia kits produced. The series ended after a few years. In 1998, the series was reintroduced by Nitto and Kow under the new name Maschinen Krieger Zbv 3000. Or simply MaK.

Blohm & Voss BV 138 - Diorama of the Day

The BV 138 was introduced in limited numbers in 1941. After some modifications the main series (over 200 aircraft) was widely used by the coastal patrol and long range sea recconnaisance units across Europe, mostly from Norwegian and French bases. Because of its Jumo 205 diesel engines, the BV 138 was an economic aircraft and could even be refuelled by U-boats, a common practice during their North Atlantic patrols.

Frozen at Stalingrad

This is a resin bust in 1/9 scale from Stormtrooper. The assembly was very easy, i just added a lace on the MP40 on my own.

I painted the bust with acrylic paints from Revell and Lifecolor and Oil paints from MIG.

To depict the snow i mixed "magic snow" powder, white glue and water together and applied it with a brush on the bust.

Tirpitz in Faettenfjord - Diorama of the Day

This amazing 'wounded dragon in it's lair' diorama was constructed by Rainer Michalek and posted on modelshipgallery.com. Rainer used the Revell Germany 1/350 scale kit and the diorama depicts Tirpitz, docked in Faettenfjord, Norway(1942) for general maintenance and repair.

Sd.Kfz. 251/17 Ausf. D "Schwebelafette"

I bought this kit about 1 year ago on Amazon for about 30€. The kit is really nice and features photo-etched and brass parts, clear parts, magic tracks and extra decals. I can recommend this kit.

My model shows a Sd.Kfz 251/17 Ausf. D Schwebelafette of the "Führer Grenadier Brigade" in Luxembourg, 1944.
