This Tau Devilfish diorama by Bigred is really something else. As always I'm fascinated by the decay of machines and the beauty of rust and this Devilfish has deferentially seen better days. It's not often I seen creative use of Warhammer models by model builders so this is really refreshing.

How to weather model railroad - Part 2

Sturmpanzer IV "Brummbär"

I truely enjoyed to assemble this superb kit from Dragon. The mold of the grey plastic parts is great and the added photo-etched-parts really improves the detailing of the kit.

The model is painted with Revell acrylic paints Aqua color (Matt16 and Matt37). I used black oil paint for the dark wash in order to weather the model a little bit. Some MIG pigments and earth from my garden gave the model a muddy look.

The tree branches on the vehicle are dried herbages from MK35 production.

Background:
The Westland Whirlwind was a British twin-engined heavy fighter developed by Westland Aircraft. It was the Royal Air Force's first single-seat, twin-engined, cannon-armed fighter, and a contemporary of the Supermarine Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane. It was one of the fastest aircraft when it flew in the late 1930s, and was much more heavily armed than any other.

However, protracted development problems with its Rolls-Royce Peregrine engines delayed the entire project and only a relatively small number were ever built. During the Second World War only two RAF squadrons were equipped with the Whirlwind, and despite successful use as a fighter-bomber it was withdrawn from service in 1943.

Battle of Tarawa - Diorama of the Day

This is a 1/32nd scale figure diorama entitled 'Battle of Tarawa'. It depicts a group of U.S. Marines 'taking out' a Japanese pillbox on that island, during WW II. The figures were modified from the old (and still in my opinion excellent) Airfix sets. The 'wood pecker' type 92 heavy machine gun is from RPM (it's 1/35th, I could not find one in 1/32nd). The pill box is a plaster casting of one that I made for Farina Enterprises. The log wall and the palm tree were made completely from scratch. 

StuG.III Ausf.G - Diorama of the day

This StuG diorama is the last one, I will show from the Winter Wars contest. It didn't make the top three but it's really my favourite. I really like the machine gun crew. Their position, the paint-job and everything. Actually I think the StuG is kinda overkill and the diorama would have been better only using the MG crew and a smaller base. But that's just my opinion...

Lost - Diorama of the Day

I have shown the 3rd and 2nd place in the 'Winter Wars' contest at afv-news.com and today it's time for the winner. It's a piece of real inspiring work with a lot of details all over the place.

The diorama is named, 'Lost - Ardennes December 1944' and was created Robert Crombeecke. 


Robert also took part in the previous 'Desert Wars' competition at afv-news with his astonishing 'Souvenir Hunter' and came in second.

Wings of Ice - Diorama of the Day

Yesterday I showed the bronze star so naturally I will show the 2nd Placement today.

This interesting piece is made by Antonio Giuliano and is called 'Wings of Ice'. The diorama is in 1/35th scale and features a M24 Chaffee (Italeri), a 1/32 Ju 87B / R “Stuka” (21st Century Toys) and figures from Tamiya.

Classic model P-47D Thunderbolt

This is a box of old model which the tooling of the mould dated back to mid 70's. OTAKI was the company which tooling up this model. However the company sold the WWII classic fighter series to Arii just before it closed down in 1986 . Arii repacked the models and launched the whole series a year later, I bought this model in around 1988.

I built this P-47D two years ago.the parts look very clean and clear but very simple structure with less details. It was the first fighter I build since I retired. I like it is simple so I spent most of the time to paint the plane. I enjoy it and I keep making models 6 days a week nowadays!

Breakfast in Hungry 1945 - Diorama of the Day

This is not the first time I report about the 'Winter Wars' contest at afv-news.com but the show is over now and the winners have been revealed. Over the next four days I will show you the three winners and one runner-up. I'm want to show the runner up because it was my favorite and it didn't even make top three.

This interesting diorama came in 3rd. and is made by Patricio Mardones. It depicts the build-up of German forces in the days before the battle for Balaton lakes early in 1945.
