Horten Ho-229

By Dusan Lekic

Ho-229 V3 was found by American troops at Gotha's Friedrichsrode factory on April 14, 1945.

Initially it was conceieved as a private venture it was to recive revolutionary turbojet as its power-plant... and it was order into production as a front line fighter for declining Luftwaffe...

The only surviving Horten 229 is the V3, which is held in storage in the Smithsonian's Paul. E. Garber facility.

The model is 1/72 scale Revell kit Horten Ho-229 (designed to have two 30mm-MK-108 cannons as A-1 version). Model is painted with authentic German colors(Gunze Sangyo).

OK. Friday I decided to finish the A-10 and my 1/72 scale Dragon M3A2 Bradley over the weekend. I fought long and hard but Sunday night I was still not done. This is as far as I got on the Bradley...

Airfix 1/72 A-10 Thunderbolt II - Chapter 5

by Kasper Fischer

Finished for now. I won't work more on this model for now. I will leave it alone for now and move on to the next model and my diorama. But before I make the revile video for Basic Modelling's Annual YouTube Competition it will get some post-shading and some weathering...

Airfix 1/72 A-10 Thunderbolt II - Chapter 4

by Kasper Fischer

Airfix 1/72 A-10 Thunderbolt II

No matter what I say about this kit, I really can't complain about the amount of decals for the Airfix A-10. It took 38 decals just to complete the armament. The kit has 69 numbers on the decal sheet but most of numbers are 2 to 6 decals each. They may be off register, by almost 1mm, but luckily most of those I need, are only one color.

I am still not done with the decals but I will finish it all up tomorrow...

I spend all Saturday editing the footage for my new video and didn't get any modelling done.
Stuff have a tendency to take up more time than expected...

Airfix 1/72 A-10 Thunderbolt II - Chapter 3

by Kasper Fischer

My plan was to paint the A-10 in the same Olive Drab paint-scheme as the Apache to practice my airbrush skills a bit on a cheap model but that idea got boring really fast. I spend some hours researching for alternative paint-schemes and found this winter camouflage, which i decided to try out instead.

Photobucket

I airbrushed some pre-shades, using Tamiya XF-1 flat black, onto all panel lines and gave it a coat of very light grey. Mixed from Tamiya XF-2 flat white and a drop of Tamiya XF-63 german grey. After it dried for some time i gave it a final thin flat white coat, still using the Tamiya, and sealed it with a layer of Model Master flat clear acrylic.

Again i let it dry for some time while i cut out some masking tape for the black camouflage. I have never tried this before on any kind of model, so i really didn't know what I was doing. I am/was a camo-virgin...

But, as you properly can see, i did a lot of over spraying because I'm a complete camo-noob. I tried to fix it by covering the black and spraying white again but that made it even worse. I got white dust in the black. Damn it. Now I have now given it a complete over-spray of Tamiya Fine Surface Primer to cover it all up and start over. This time doing what I set out to do in the first place. Practice the paint-scheme for the AH-64D Longbow I'm building next. OLIVE DRAB...

One step forward and two steps back!

and on a side note; I'm not sure why the American Army painted the aircraft like a Danish Holstein but it makes me feel comfy (:

Airfix 1/72 A-10 Thunderbolt II - Chapter 2

by Kasper Fischer

On with the build. I discovered the weakly sculptured pilot's back was about 15-30 scale centimeters from his seat so some fitting had to be done. I got him into his seat after wrestling a bit with it and i give some basic modelling tips on using files on scale models.

Airfix 1/72 A-10 Thunderbolt II - Chapter 1

by Kasper Fischer

Photobucket

Well, there is not really much to say about this video. It's straight forward on the Airfix build. It's all coming along according to planes on the A-10 Thunderbolt. It's always a good idea to test-fit your parts before gluing but it's especially important when you are building an old kit like this. It's all basic modelling tips and tricks but check the video out for yourself...
